AREA II. Terroir
Project 22:
Terroir
Description:
Identification of basic terroir units (BTU) for the six cultivars with
the greatest economic importance in the Valley of Colchagua, integrating
climate, soil and plant conditions which optimize grape and wine quality.
Site index models for the cultivars under study, an experimental data
base and associated software will be generated. The project is currently
undergoing the data analysis phase for the first season of viticultural-enological
evaluation.
Outcomes:
The viticultural-enological characterization of the behavior of the selected
cultivars in the area under study. Associated software.
Researcher’s comment:
This project will provide information to improve decision-making in planting
under the different edafoclimatic conditions of the Colchagua Valley.
It will also deliver valuable information which may be used for both technical
and commercial purposes with respect to the promotion of the benefits
of Colchagua as a wine producing area.
