AREA IV. Benchmarking
Project 17:
Benchmarking
Description:
The “benchmarking” method will be used to compare the operation
of the wineries and thus identify gaps, opportunities, and share operating
results. Studies both at the vineyard and wine cellar level will be carried
out during the 2006 – 2010 period. The first of such studies was
performed in 2006. It consisted of analyzing the production costs of wine
grapes at each of the wineries who are members of Vinos de Chile, breaking
them down by type of handling, and comparing them with the averages obtained
in the valleys where these wineries are located. The results of each winery
were delivered in individual reports to each company and they will be
analyzed, as a whole for all of the companies, at a seminar. Subsequently,
in a second phase, the “benchmarking” method will be applied
to the elaboration costs of wines at the cellar.
As a supplement of the above, this project is aimed at gathering a data
base on costs at the vineyard and cellar, which will be analyzed from
a technical and economical point of view and will be delivered to the
industry by means of reports and seminars in which the current state of
affairs of the industry will be revised.
Outcomes:
5 Comparative reports (1 per year)
Researcher’s comment:
The design of this project involves permanent contact with the wineries
and with the TecnoVid directory for the definition of the parameters that
must be measured.
